Application for Last Free City
Player name: Prof
Character Name: Yumemi Okazaki
Character Canon: Touhou Project (PC-98)
Canon point: After Mystic Square.
Background: http://en.touhouwiki.net/wiki/Yumemi_Okazaki
Abilities:
Technically a perfectly ordinary human, but sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic (a statement she would argue vehemently about). Tech-induced false magic abilities include flight, ray guns, and laser beams that cause explosions inexplicably shaped like giant crosses. She also has a cruise missile. It's named Mimi-chan.
Personality:
Yumemi is a child prodigy and brilliant scientist. She has amazingly thorough mastery of biology, chemistry, physics, and math. When it comes to just about any kind of problem, she immediately resorts to the scientific method, even when it might not be appropriate. She gets rather carried away with her experiments, rapidly losing sight of such details as "other people" and "human rights" in the name of the inevitable march of SCIENCE.
In other words, she's something of a mad scientist, if a generally respected one. However, one particular subject sets Yumemi far apart from her scientific brethren: Magic. Upon discovering Probability Travel and visiting other dimensions, Yumemi became obsessed with the idea that there's something beyond the laws of physics. The idea has captivated her, and she accordingly zeroes in on magic like a heat-seeking missile. She wants to understand it. She wants to control it. Most importantly, she wants to prove beyond the faintest shadow of a doubt that it exists. Ever since she was laughed out of the academy, proving the existence of magic has been her quest for redemption.
Beyond all this complicated inner turmoil, Yumemi is a Teenager. She's very high on energy, talking quickly and threatening to carry the conversation along on her own, leaving everyone else in the dust. She tends to think extremely highly of herself, viewing others as rivals at best, and underlings or experimental fodder at worst. She has a peculiar but pointed sense of flair (she watched Sailor Moon as a kid and identified more with the villains), and is firmly of the believe that anything worth doing is worth doing with style and panache. Nobody is fully prepared for battle without a swooshy cape.
Yumemi doesn't really have a very good grasp on how to interact with human beings. This is only natural, considering that she had a PhD and was teaching in a university by the time she was 18 - she never really had people her age she could relate to, and doesn't now, either. As a result, she's indepednent to the point of being self-centered, barely ever stopping to consider the feelings of others. She speaks freely without worrying if other people care what she has to say, or worrying about how the things she's saying sound. This can result in a good deal of confusion - after all, if SHE understood, then surely everyone else did. Right?
